10 September 2022 - The First Tech Challenge - The Encrypted Gentlemen #16788
On Saturday September 10, it was already time. The day everyone had been waiting for… the kick-off of the 2022-2023 season live. For most of us this was our first live kick-off. It was nice to finally experience a kick-off event in person.
The theme of the new season was already known, PowerPlay, but what we didn’t know was what the field looked like and what our new missions were. To find out, we got in the car around 12:00 and we all went to the Avans University in Breda. The journey was about an hour and when we arrived at Avans University of Applied Sciences, we were allowed to sign up. We also got a nice piece of cake and a delicious drink.
At around 1.30 pm it was the opening of the event. We were shown the schedule of the day and started our masterclasses around 2 pm. Several masterclasses were organized by FTC Netherlands, from what FTC is to improving our social media and programming with Java. These were quite helpful for both new and old team members to improve their skill for the new season. In addition to the masterclasses, there were also other things to do, such as testing your reaction time or driving your robot.
After the masterclasses we had dinner. The food was very tasty. We had the choice of fries, burger and shawarma. In between we could also get free ice cream and coffee.
At around 7:00 PM, the moment we’ve been waiting for, the worldwide reveal of the Game of the Season, arrived. We were all sitting in front of the canvas, waiting for the unveiling. First we got to see the animation of the Power Play season. As mentioned before, the theme of the new season is Power Play. It is focused on sustainable energy of the future. Then the big reveal, on the count of three the curtain fell and the spell was cast.
We are sure that this year will be another fun year with a new mission and a new challenge. We can’t wait to get started.

Op zaterdag 10 september, was het al zover. Het dag waarop iedereen zich had gewacht… de kick-off van seizoen 2022-2023 live. Voor de meesten van ons was dit onze eerste live kick-off. Het was leuk om eindelijk een kick-off evenement persoonlijk mee te maken.
De thema van de nieuw seizoen was al bekend, PowerPlay, maar wat we niet wisten was hoe de veld eruit zag en wat ons nieuwe missies waren. Om daarachter te komen stapte we om rond 12:00 in de auto en gingen we met zijn allen naar de Avans Hoogschool in Breda. De reis was ongeveer een uur en toen we bij Avans Hogeschool aankomden, mochten we ons aanmelden. We kregen ook een lekker stukje cake en een heerlijke drankje.
Om rond een uur of 13.30 was het de opening van het evenement. We kregen de planning van de dag te zien en begonnen om rond 14.00 met onze masterclasses. Er werden verschillende masterclasses georganiseerd door FTC Nederland, van wat FTC is tot het verbeteren van ons socialmedia en programmeren met Java. Deze waren best nuttig voor zowel nieuwe als oude team leden om hun skill te verbeteren voor het nieuw seizoen. Naast de masterclasses waren er ook andere dingen te doen, zoals je reactietijd testen of met je robot rijden.
Na de masterclasses hadden we dinner. De eten was erg lekker. We hadden de keuze uit friet, hamburger en shawarma. Tussendoor konden we ook gratis ijs een koffie halen.
Om rond een uur of 19.00 was het zover, de moment waarop we gewacht hebben, De wereldwijde onthulling van de Spel van het seizoen. We zaten met zijn allen voor de doek, wachtend op de onthulling. Eerst kregen we de animatie van het seizoen Power Play te zien. Zoals eerder vermeld is de thema van het nieuwe seizoen is Power Play. Het is gefocused op duurzame energie van de toekomst. Daarna de grote onthulling, op de telling van drie viel de doek omlaag en het spel was bekend.
We weten zeker dat dit jaar weer een leuk jaar zal worden met een nieuwe missie en een nieuwe uitdaging. We kunnen niet wachten om te gaan beginnen.
